Sales Rep Job

Can anyone give me a general idea of what a Mercedes sales rep's income is?

I believe I have the makings of an excellent sales rep, with both customer service and engineering background, and a VERY STRONG interest in the automotive industry.

However, I'm just curious if its worth pursueing instead of staying in the engineering path i'm on now.

Many thanks in advance!

PS- any advice in obtaining experience or a sales job with MBusa let me know.

RE: Sales Rep Job

Hi.
I am a BMW sales rep and work in a BMW and MB dealership and I am allowed to sell both makes.
BMW is definitely the better income opportunity than Mercedes.
Merceds cannot even give away their cars anymore. The margins are more than slim and the panache' of the 60's,70' and 80's in this wonderful luxury line is gone to dogs.
I make about 200G on the BMW side, being one of the top producers in our Chicago market. My counterpart on the Mercedes side makes 120G. This is a decline for him of 80G from 5 years ago.
MBUSA is absolutely stupid in their marketing and not very supportive to their sales force. BMW is the total opposite. They market smart and productive, keep the margins up and take care for their sales staff with incentives for additional income where needed.
I am an architect and choose to sell BMW's 8 years ago when I immigrated from Germany, where I was a 15 year MB fanatic and I could not believe that anywhere in this world a Mercedes would be lower ranked than a stinkin' Bimmer. But here in the States I was prooven wrong.
So I hope that answers your question. Only consider this carreer if your current income is below 60G, then you'll make it and be able to increase your income over time. If you are dreaming of a 6 figure job right of the bat-- not in this line of work and certainly not with Benz. You'll need a head start of at least 2 years of pain and suffering, starvation, training and stupid sales manager meetings and a lot of hrs.
