Tire Size question.....does this sound true?

Our used 1998 e320 [ rwd not a 4-Matic]wagon came with some very nice winter tires that I'd like to keep just for the winter.

The winter tires are 215/55-16 's on the stock rims.

I have a set of brand new Michelin 205/60-16 's that were taken off my Toyota and I thought it would be ok to put them on the E320 but was told by my Mercedes dealer that these would have a negative effect on the traction control and the anti-lock brakes....potentially leading to damage of those systems.

This sounds unlikely to me but I'd like to hear a third opinion.

Thanks

Will Michelin 205/60-16 's cause a problem though? I'd like to use these because I already own them and they are doing nothing in the garage.

I realise the 215/55-16's are the stock size.

What do you think about this part?

Damage? Probably not. You didn't say what kind of Michelin's they are. They are not Pilot Sport A/S are they? There is some strange problem with those on some cars - like pulling to one side. MB even put out a bulletin about those tires.

RE: Tire Size question.....does this sound true?

If this was true then people wouldn't
mount alu wheels with low profile
tires.

I don't think the half a milimeter
difference will do any damage.

ABS has nothing to do with the tires,
but everything to do with the brakes.

Traction control controls the amount
of wheel spin or prevents it,so I don't
see this being affected by tire size also.

Louis.
