Talk me into buying a Benz
Or, correct me if I am wrong with my thinking here...
I have only owned two vehicles thus far. My current vehicle is a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
I am a bit frustrated with the operating cost of the vehicle and the overall quality.
The more research I see, the more I belief that a used Benz is far superior to most new domestic vehicles in a similar price range.
I bought a '98 Jeep in '01 for $19,000. I could sell it today for about $5,000 and owe twice that amount. It will have about 120,000 miles by the time it is paid off and be ready for the grave.
I have found several 2001 C-Class cars in the 30,000 mile range with prices in the $23-28,000 area.
I took a loaded 2001 C320 for a test drive this weekend. Wow! That is a nice car!
The maintenance costs of my Jeep are insane. I think that a Benz would actually be cheaper for me, mile for mile.
The Benz appears to be designed for long-term ownership while many domestics are merely disposable.
My Jeep is loaded with plastic and low quality interior components. A new loaded Grand Cherokee costs in the $38,000 area. That kind of money could buy a lot of Benz.
Has anyone else run any comparison numbers here, or I am crazy? It seems that I could have a MUCH nicer vehicle for only a slightly higher sticker price, with lower operating costs.
Thanks in advance.
