I think I ruined father's day and it isn't even here yet... I need some help. I have a 1998 E430 ..I set a coke down on the gearbox with the car in park and running to go and lock my door and when I got up to get out...I knocked over the cup and about 10 ounces of pepsi went down into the shifting column...I immediatly turned off the engine and realized I could not get to the spill. I started up the car and it ran fine...however..first the windows went out...but the ASR switch and the mirrors still worked. I drove the car about a block or less and realized there was a problem as it wouldn't shift out of first gear so I immediatly parked it in the driveway and called the dealership..the one I really don't trust. At any rate, I was asking about what might be wrong and how LARGE a mistake did I make and the mechanic..working on commission I am sure...said that the computer that runs the engine is inside that housing and that it would probably be $1,500 to $2,500 to fix it and to call my insurance agent and tow it in. After the incident..I did smell electical smoke for a brief second and my step son..a mechanical genious...said that we probably blew a fuse or fuses...but he was on his way to an appointment and we haven't explored the fuses yet...I know it is not going to be a simple fix and it will be towed into my mechanic on monday...I was just wondering if anyone else out there has made the same mistake..or had someone make it for them... I want to be prepared for the worst and expect the best....PLEASE SOME HELP HERE??? Thanks,
