RE: Need help: Mercedes Benz Customer Service

Yeah, I'm not happy with MB service either. I just bought a '96 C180 Elegance and two days later the key "plip" packed up and I found myself stranded.

After trying changing the batteries I rang my local dealership and the guy said "Yeah, the key's broken. It'll take about 3 days for a replacement and cost £55.00."

I asked how the alarm/immobiliser could be manually overidden and was told it can't (which is bad enough), but it was the whole "what a stupid question to ask" attitude I got from the guy that really cheesed me off. He offered no help or suggestions, but was quite happy to take my money from me over the phone. I've spent the last 5 days looking at my car sitting in front of my house, unable to even unlock the door without the alarms going off, and I have little confidence that the key will arrive this week, so I'll have to hire a car or something.

I've spent the last 15 years dreaming of owning a Merc, having heard of the legendary reliability and customer service. So far I've seen little evidence of this.
