RE: Did I get a good deal on this 560 SEL?
Pictures would be nice.
AC not working? Hope it's just a recharge.
$5K for an 91 560 SEL sounds great and 102K miles only.
I just paid $13K for a 93 400 SEL, also with low mileage --- 86K on it. But my AC works, shocks are good. I researched into the car's previous owners: 1st - from 93 - 01, 2nd from 01 - 03. They lived in neighborhood close to me, and these are the most expense places to live --- Weston MA and Dover MA. MB have all the service record for this car...so I know it has been pampered.
Ultimately, true value is in the eyes of the beholder. As well as the potential hidden cost of things that may arise over the next few years. If nothing significantly breaks in the next year...then you got yourselve a deal, but if it turns out that it cost you 10K to fix things...then...oh well.
Value: Mileage will vary in different eyes. Even if it cost you 10K to fix any problems --- to bring it to prestine condition, then the total cost of ownership will be 15K...in my eyes...still a great deal for owning a 91 MB 560 SEL. Hey, it was worth 80K new. But if it does not cost you a cent (but you already indicated some issues...so this will not be true)..then 5K is a steal of a deal.
Lastly, did you have your machinic check the car before you bought it? I had mine checked by my personal mechanic...and he gave it an A+ report. He did not see any problems and only expect to see it for regular servicing.
