model, class distinctions

Long-time, super happy owner of 1979 300 SD/TD, now in the market for another sedan or wagon, somewhat newer, must be diesel. It's been challenging to research unless I know a specific year and model I want.

I've been all over the Web trying to find a site that can help me sort out what are the differences between classes and models, and which models are diesel. Can anyone direct me to such information? Thanks.

RE: model, class distinctions

I assume your current car is a w116 300 SD? The best diesel MB made is the w126 300 SD – others will soon be posting that I’m wrong. [:p][:D][;)] That should be first on your list. Also look for a w126 300 SDL with the OM 603 six-cylinder engine. There are of course the w123 diesels but they are an older car closely related to your w116.

Newer still are the w124 cars, built to replace the w123s. An 87 300 D would be best here.

The w201s 190s also had diesel engines but the w124 would be a better choice, IMHO.
