nearly killed when turbocharger failed
Sole owner of my 98 300E TD. Took my car in for B service, was not having any problems. The next day I had a electronic signal, went back to the mechanic, told there was a problem with the air mass sensor. Thought it was odd, as I had that part replaced 15 months prior to this, which also came up on a code error after a rountine service. Had the part replaced again, as I was moving out of state & driving the car, wanting to be sure the car was safe.
The car began accelerating on it's own, briefly, corrected with the brakes. The following day, it occured again, this time not stopping. I was on an interstate, spun out of control from the far right lane, crashing into the concrete barrier in the middle of the highway. I have no idea how fast the car got up too, but know I was going under 65, having just passed a cop. We were fortunate that the car turned at the last minute, and the impact went to the back, resulting in over 12K in damage. Seat belt even broke when my head hit it. My question- does anyone know if the air mass sensor errors could be linked to the turbocharger failing? I was told oil leaked into the turbocharger, and that this is a extremely rare problem.
