Best used Benz <$25k for 6'5" driver?

I really like the new E series but they're a little pricey at this point. I'm considering a Benz as my next car, after driving a '96 Impala SS for several years.

I like large sedans, but the Impala was a bit cumbersome to drive in traffic and was terrible in the snow. The width and black paint made it a magnet for door dings and scratches.

My concern about buying a used Benz is that I'll get crushed if any major maintenance issues come up. An old boss bought a used '93 S500, but ended spending about $20k in electrical and engine work.

Besides legroom and reliability, I want something that will hold its value well.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

E class is the best benz out of all benzes. I love the CL, SL, and S but all my advisors told me that E is the one to buy if I want it last. I guess when you buying old cars, you always run into a risk of getting a bad ones. Take your risk, I guess. And if you want to be good on snow, get the 4Matic one.

[:D]I bought my 95 S320 because I'm a big guy and damn it I want a big car. I have a severe head room issue as I'm very long in the upper body, no problem in the "S".
A 3.2 litre uses less fuel than a 5 litre and more room under the hood if something goes wrong.
Had the car 8 months. So far repairs have cost me zero (0).

If you can find a really clean low mileage 126 series S-Class, you might like it. Lots of room, cheap to fix (for a Mercedes) built like a tank. I have 215,000 miles on mine. Check the 126 forum. We all love our cars.
