2003 E500 3100 miles. I experienced comoplete failure of my electrical systems while driving on a busy street in Las Vegas yesterday. Suddenly the warming lights flashed red and I had no brakes--not even back up. I had the pedal to the floor and was still rolling. Car seedmed to suddenly misfire, too. Emergency response was slow. Service departments said last night that they never heard of this before. Anyone have any stories to share. Could have been a disaster. Is this a lemon? Email me if you have any comments or questions.
Thanks.

I have never heard of that. You should have still had the hydraulic brake system which would work without any power. I wonder what went wrong.
You didn't make anybody mad did you? [:D]
How did you get stopped?

Luckily, I had left the interstate and turned onto a major thoroughfare. I was at a stop and just begun to accelerate when the failure occurred. The car rolled to a stop. There wasn’t time to use the emergency brake. I keep thinking about what would have happened if this electrical failure had happened while I was traveling at 75 mph or trying to stop at a red light. I’m in marketing too and don’t think I have any enemies. If someone’s trying to do me in, they came pretty close.

Yes that is very scary. I'm glad that you are all right.
I'm assuming that you haven't heard anything fromthe dealer yet?
No. But service and sales have been very responsive and concerned so far. On night of incident, no vehicle was available so they rented me a car. Yesterday (next day) I went to dealership and they found me a MB loaner.
As anyone would be, I am completely out of my comfort zone with respect to the vehicle. No one expects that any road worthy vehicle would virtually shut down while in use. Again—even the back-up hydraulic brakes failed completely. This vehicle should be returned to the manufacture immediately. Hopefully safety will be of primary concern to MB. My expectation is that the potential human disaster I experienced as a result of the new E500 will be mitigated with swift and appropriate action on the part of Mercedes Benz and the dealership. The car should be replaced immediately.
Most of the states that have them require three to four attemps at fixing the problem before replacement. Unless you can make a convincing case for immediate replacement or trading it for a 2004 model.
Local dealer just called and said the SBC failed. They plan to replace and return car in a few days after road test. Service agent said he has never seen this before. Any thoughts?

I am not familiar with the initials SBC. What do they stand for?
