My dad has a 2001 s430. All I have to say about this car is WOW I love it. It is the most amazing car to drive (when I do get to drive it, which is hardly ever). But I woke up this mourning and my dad came into my room and told me to take a look at his car. I look at it and the whole front of the car has dropped. The wheel wells are almost resing on the tire itself. The only thing I could guess is that something happened the airbags that they popped or something but its both sides of the car and only the front. I find this very strange that this would all of a sudden happen. It has been very cold here lately ruffly averaging -25 celcius. Could that be the cause of it? Any help would be great. Thanks
I've seen that before at my local dealership. No one told me what it was(because I didn't have time to ask), and like you said it was the front in that car too. However I believe that the airmatic airbags are only IN the front anyway. So they probably did leak or pop.[:(]
Your dad may have been better off getting the standard suspension instead of airmatic. MB tried this system before on their '60's models and 600 sedan and pullman and it failed.
My mates dad had this same problem here in Australia with a Ford Fairlane. The airbags might have popped, but it could also be other things as well such as Faulty electrics or air pumps. And 25'C should def NOT pop airbags and trust me thats not cold, or in AUS anyway, but i'd be betting electrics. Hope i could help
I saw a bunch like that at the dealership, I think it may be a pressure thing, when the temperature drops the pressure drops, which is why your wheels drop a few PSI. But then thats just a theory of mine, I'm sure an MB engineer would have a better answer.

When he started the car did they pump back up again?
Let us know the outcome.

FAILED??? Check your history and car values. A properly maintained 111, 112, 109, or M100 powered car with the air system is a DREAM to drive and very valuable. The reviews - then and now - are nothing short of high praise. I do agree regarding complexity - my 1966 111 has springs. I'm glad it does, but the air system from that era can't be beat. I think the problems you hear are from improper maintenance and lack of knowledge on how the system should be set up.
