VIN Tracking

Is there any place I can enter my '97 E420's VIN# and get a copy of the original window sticker info?

RE: VIN Tracking

I have just been through this myself.

I am assuming you are after the Data Card with all the information for your car when it left the factory ... colour code, trim code, options (standard and additional) etc.

I recommend calling in to your local MB agent and give them the VIN number - they can usually enter this info their computer and print out from the Daimler-Chrysler database (I say usually because MB split the world into regions - if your car was sold new in another region it may take a week or two to get the information).

It is worth the effort a) because it is a very interesting exercise and b) each car is uniquely recorded - in the event of needing some wierd or wonderful spareparts they can be cross-referenced and confirmed via the VIN and codes.

The following will take you to an excellent site that details most of the codes (take the Mercedes-Benz new and used cars and parts link)

http://www.amcon-luxled.com/index.html

Good luck - I found from the info I received that my car originally had code 226 option - rear foot rests! how useful.

regards

RE: VIN Tracking

Thanks for the info - I'll try both. And it should work as the car was bought about 1.5 miles from where I live! I have a friend in Auckland through another mutual hobby, and he is into Rovers and is in a club there - do you know any of those guys?

RE: VIN Tracking

All you have to do is write to :MBUSA ATTN: customer assistance, Three Paragon Drive Montvale ,NJ 07645-0350 , and write a letter requesting the copy of original window, and include your model year/model/VIN# and copy of registration. I got mine in 1 week!Pretty cool info sheet to have, since most original owners don't save it for next buyer. Best of all it was free![:)]

RE: VIN Tracking

This may be of interest, once you have the data card for your car, it details all the options codes your car left the factory with ... the following link is extremely good (but not entirely complete) at disciphering the codes ...

Some of the codes are rather bizzarre like option 226 or 921 ...

The link is : http://www.amcon-luxled.com/index.html

(take the Mercedes-benz new and used cars and parts link)

Enjoy
