About to graduate, and I want an AMG...

This will be my second car. I have owned my 2002 Impala LS Sport for all of it's 120,000 miles. I have kept it clean, and in top shape. I will continue to use this for the winter in my snowy city of Buffalo NY.

I have pretty much decided on a used AMG that has been cared for (hopefully).

I have seen reasonable prices on several models, and want to know owner's or people familiar with the vehicles opinion.

First choice is 2000-2001 E55 AMG. I have found one with a Lorinser kit, two tone, with the black wood grain (my choice interior). Only 40k+ miles, asking $28,000.

Would this be a better choice over the newer generation model year 2002-2004 E55?

Any other suggestions? I found an AMG Hammer for sale, awesome, but too much for me.

Most believe that particular Hammer isn't real - see the threads in the w124 and the w126 forums. As for your choice, you're better off with a 2000-2002 E55 and you should shoot for paying around $20k for one with under 50k miles. That $28k one is a longshot by the Seller - he won't get it. The w210 was a reliable chassis, and the jury is still out (very out) on the 2003 chassis.
