quick question.. is a 96 sl600 R129 with sport package (amg wheels and body styling) considered an AMG?? I would love to dabadge and only apply AMG badging but I don't want to if its not truly an AMG..
Well from what I've heard is that in the old day's of AMG if you had two or more AMG parts put on the car they would put on the Badging on the trunk. But since MB bought AMG and their focus almost only on the motor, I'm not realy sure. But if your not going to mind all the "REAL" talk and not sell it as having a AMG motor. Why not. I guess just make sure it genuine AMG parts not other aftermarket stuff.

Ah that magic feeling of being post mortgage and zero debt. (between repairs)
Not really. A good analogy is with BMW and their M cars. They have M3's M5's. And only when they have the engine are they considered true M cars. But you can get M suspension and styling on other models, and they aren't considered M cars. The same is true for AMG, unless you have the engine its not a real AMG, but instead an MB with an AMG sport package. I would keep the SL600 badges and be proud of it.
Not to get a last word in, back in the day AMG had stages of work they would do. But it was done by them so it was what it was. Done by AMG a seperate company.
PS they didn't even have "a motor" they just hopped the MB one up all they could.
I think debadging looks best even with a true AMG car....and BMW did badge many cars M that had no M engines...I sold a 1 owner before me M635csi 1983 Euro spec car that was M badged from the factory and appeared on the list of options...I took every M badge off the car....
My 1976 6.9 had an AMG badge installed by AMG with no AMG engine...post 1996 only the engine cars come badged
