I am having a problem with the factory installed Pirelli PZero tires my 2008 S65 and wondered if anyone else is experiencing the same problem.
I live in Northern California and have been driving the car since late October. When it came in for it's service appointment at MB Walnut Creek in January @ 4,185 miles the service tech noted that the wear bars were showing on the rear tires.
Having owned a lot of cars and tires I thought it was very abnormal to see wear bars @ 4,185 miles on any tire (high performance or not), especially since I only use this car for daily driving / not racing.
At 5,885 miles my left rear tire blew out and now the right tire is bulging. I brought it into the dealer again last Friday asking them to treat this as a manufacturer defect and they are saying they wont cover it as a warranty issue because "Mercedes doesn't cover tires".
This doesn't make sense to me since I would expect at least 10,000 miles out of a set of tires, so I wanted to check here to see if anyone has any advice for me.
Mercedes says to work with the service manager but Mercedes Benz of Walnut Creek has a TERRIBLE service department and they are basically unwilling to help so I am on my own. Terrible and insane considering I just spent $200K with them on this car!!
it's a shame that you get better service buying a $20,000 Hyundai then a $200,000 MB. That is really nuts. I think you're being very reasonable even expecting just 10k miles on a set of tires. 5k is downright crazy.
I had a similar problem with my 300SE on some Goodyear tires. It worn out very quickly (those aren't performance tires and I'm still on the 16" stock wheels). Not sure if its due to the weight of the car. I had a set of Michelin Pilot now and it works fine with the car. Seems like Michelin suits Benz the best.
I know this is not what you want to hear but 10,000 miles on a set of tires on a S65 is probably not going to happen.Average would be around 7500 miles and it has nothing to do with the tires being defective. Mercedes-Benz covers the car and not the tires and the tire warranty is in your set of books. The tires can do some amazing things at high and normal speeds. You have one monster of a car that needs the stickiest tires that money can buy and you are driving on them. The trade-off is that they wear very very fast.
I do agree that the ball was dropped in service as you should NEVER leave the Mercedes-Benz dealer less than happy.... Just my two cents.

Someone help this guy. You may not use Hyundai and $200,000 MB in the same sentence, ever.

Any comments are appreciated.
I just had a blow out with my 2008 E Class and it seemed very strange that it should happen...defective tires...I couldn't chance it and bought 4 new.

I would contact Pirelli and see what they have to say; it can't hurt. You can also contact MBUSA to see if there are any other OEM tires recommended for an S65.
