Remove the wheel, check the casting stamps on the backside of the wheel.
AMG does not make their own wheels, they are made to spec by other companies, like ATS, Momo, etc. However, there will be an AMG casting logo and/or an "HWA" stamp (Han Werner Auffrect) and product number. Otherwise, it's a clone.
I figured as much, but wasn't sure if the logo/stamp is always on the front? Should I bother pulling a wheel to look at the back side? I've done the VIN check but of course it doesn't show the AMG modifications. I don't suppose there's any way to find out from AMG?
For the "pre-Merger" cars, there isn't much that the current AMG or Mercedes organization can tell you. That would be even more so if the modifications were done by AMG-Japan or the other AMG centers that were in business around the world.
Putting on the jack and spinning off five lug bolts . . . pretty easy.
I have yet to see a genuine wheel that didn't say AMG on the front.. The knock off's don't say AMG.. Again, you'll know w/ utter certainty once you pull a wheel!
i had a set of AMG copy wheels on my C class and they looked exactly the same as the genuine ones and at around £600 with tyres for four they were a good price, Instead of £750 each for the genuine wheels .
