1983 500sl euro AMG pics

Here's my car with 118k. My question is did AMG ever publish HP figures for those euro 5.0 motors with AMG cams? My car feels more like its hitting pretty close to 300hp.

Better pics would be cool - I'd like to see those. Stock was 235hp; if you got the polished/ported heads, polished/ported intake, and hotter cam, then you're good for around 280, with the AMG low-restricted exhaust you can get close to 300hp. That's the setup on my car. Mine's got the full body kit, but yours only has the front airdam. It's a lot like this setup:

1982 AMG 500SL MERCEDES

That one posted above is also a real AMG - how do you know yours is a factory AMG? I'm always curious to the "clues".

Yes, more pics would be great! The Recaro's look interesting..much cleaner looking w/o all the switches a-la a 124/126 ideal C setup.

Your best bet would be to find a dyno...that way you know exactly what you're putting down!

Is your car still hydraulic lifters or was it converted to mechanical?

Build sheet

Manual climate control. There is some federalization and AMG shop paperwork from 1985 originally from Florida (Miami Beach) that came with the car I'll need to dig up. I think I just have the cams.

i'm brand new to this forum, but i have to ask--- your sl wouldn't happen to be for sale, would it? that car is just flat out bad ass. my dad had an anthracite 450 for 17 years, and 380,000 mi. I grew up w/ that car, learned to drive on it, and loved every minute of it. Even the horsehair falling out of the seats!

cheers,
coby

Well, cams alone won't get you to 300...you would need a full header conversion as well as worked heads (larger valves, ported etc..) @ which point you would be at 276 according to AMG.

A Dyno would answer All your questions though;-)
