Hey guys,

I have a 2002 Mercedes G500. So my transmission was is Limp mode and would go in and out occasionally. I took it to my local German specialist and he diagnosed it as a dead speed sensor #3. After ordering both a valve body and conductor plate. We changed the filter and gasket earlier today alongside the valve body and plate. The 13 pin connector is brand new as well. So after changing those out and adding oil, he told me that he was unable to reprogram the TCU due to the fact that his machine was unable to get a signal from the TCU. He told me that the only thing he thinks would fix it is the buying a new TCU which is going to cost an arm and a leg. Does anybody have any suggestions for what it could be? I do plan on getting it tomorrow and driving it home to see if the TCU is covered in oil. Any other ideas of what it could be? Thank you so much in advance, I really appreciate it!

Also, the car is still in Limp mode supposedly.

Will unplugging the battery help at all?

You need to diagnose it with a STAR System to see what is your problem. If the multi-pin plug was leaking ATF, there is a good possibility that the ATF wicked up the cable and destroyed the TCU.

Do not freak out or rush to quick decisions. The 722.630 is a very strong proven unit. Plenty of write-up's. Check in the W210 section there is an excellent write up /DIY that really covers all of it well.

Try cleaning the TCU if it is wet as stated above. It is in safe mode very likely because something small and electrical is out of parameters.

Look on Ebay and the web for used ones. Cross reference part number, Possible that it could be a part# that is the same as every old 20 year old euro taxi with a 722.6xx

Need the STAR system
