Heated windshield

My buddy has a Land Rover Defender 110 that has a filament heated wind shield. I would be interested to know if anyone has seen this as an available part or special order for the MBZ G-Wagens.

newer models (463) have been equipped with heated windshields.

An installation to a 460 is possible, but not inexpensive

you'll need
wiring A463 540 38 10 - 142,13 Euro
Windscreen clear - A463 670 01 01 - 649,60 Euro
or
windscreen colored A463 670 05 01 - 649,60 Euro

Switch A129 820 74 10 - .14,91 Euro
Relay A107 820 00 10 - .55,47 Euro
Connector A005 400 01 69 2,22 Euro
Fuse N072 581 000 307 - 0,49 Euro

if you can read German, you'll find here an installation routine.

Free heated windscreen

This year I finally took advice from this list and in mid November removed the rubber strip at the rear of the engine compartment that seals to the hood.

Holy cow what a difference! We've already had some nasty freezing sleet and snow and the warm air coming out of the engine compartment not only kept my wipers from freezing up like they used to do, but would actually keep the lower 1/3 of the windshield nearly DRY from the heat that was blowing out there.

Very nice idea. If I remember right, Dutch may have posted it, maybe from Vinther's site. I don't know but whoever did, I say thanks a million for safer and more enjoyable winter driving.

Tips und Tricks

It was one of the "Tips und Tricks" from the Geländewagen und Freizeit website.[8D]

I had started to translate and post all of the "Tips and Tricks"; but nobody seemed interested so I stopped.

I for one really apreciate that one!

If you wanted to post one here once in a while when the mood strikes you, that would be cool. And if you always title it "tips and tricks" or something consistent, then anyone can search them up whenever they want. Don't let it get to be like work though.

I can't read German, so I'm sunk unless some kind soul takes the time to translate for me.

Thanks Dutch!

No. The heating wires are IN the glass. Glass must be replaced and other wiring added.

RE: Heated windshield

I recently bought the switch A129 820 74 10 for the new heated windshield as Klaus (79 Percent) listed above. I think I would prefer to use the same style switch as for my rear heated window and possibly combine this with the same relay as used for my model year rear defroster.

I did remove the seals as Dave G. (Hipine) suggested and this definitely helped in all but the worst weather where side and top icing up was still a problem, but much less on the lower windscreen.

In order to use a duplicate rear defroster setup to power a front windscreen, I need to know the resistance and amperage draw for the two different pieces of glass (I think). Now I'm not an electrical engineer but I suspect that if I use a different relay than the A107 820 00 10 that Klaus suggested, I could end up with warm spot instead of a warm window, or maybe even a blown grid and lots of dough.

Please see 460 wheel offset thread for evidence of latest mistake in using 463 parts. Any technical data would be appreciated.
