How to fix passed out switch lights?

Am I the only one with broken tiny lamps inside the switches ( defrost, power windows etc. ) in the centre console?
Fellow experts -How is this fixed?

I think the only solution is a new switch. The bulbs are not, to my knowledge, replaceable; and none are shown onthe EPC.

Rolf,

Are they all out? Check for power to the affected light(s) first. The button light wiring is pretty complex with some of the wires being routed from terminal block 58 and the rest daisy chained from switch to switch.

Not all, only the one inside the defroster switch and rihgt hand power window. Switches do work as they are supposed to- but these two are harder to find in the dark. On my other G I had the same problem but with other switches... Well I guess one can either live the problem -or fix it.
I guess you have to get access from behind but how?

Switches

Half of mine have gone out. I dismantled a switch once to see what I could see. The bulb is not replacable, and not cost effective to dismantle. The switches are upwards of ÂŁ15 ea. so I am living with it( for the moment). The wooden console needs to be removed which is a 1 hour job in itself to dismantle..

Klaus did a good description of the complete process one. It might be on his web site

Switch swithes?

Hi ROLY thanks for the input. Yes one can live with it but it's a little bit bugging - isn't it....

I might be wrong or out of subject.....

.....but i had some illumination problems with my 1980 300GD... but mine does not have electric windows so yours might be the 463...and you are talking about the swiches so maybe i am wrong..but here goes.

I just dismantled the centre console... with the help of some members in the forum..and discovered a lot of dirt and soil...yes.... not just dust... i removed about 2 kilos of dirt from the dash. That immediatley gave me twice as much light. I also discovered some lights had gonne out not just in the center console but also on the speedometer... it was very cheap and easy to repair... some cents for every puu ou - push in bulb. But since i am the most inexperienced here u might be talking about something else.... if you are not... i am happy:):)

All the best

RE: How to fix passed out switch lights?

I am pretty sure that at http://www.mb-g.de/gdaten/list.php?f=gdat a procedure for replacement of the bulbs of the switches of a 463 G was described. It was obviously in German but I managed to decypher most of it. But it's now gone! I think I had a printout somewhere though....

Yes, I found it. Apparently my browser was only showing the latest postings. BTW, http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr does more than a decent translation of the article!
