Black car is a nice contrast to a white house. 930 turbo is a nice contrast to a G-wagen. Slightly different caracters and performers but I sure like them equally. Both fun toys.

Warm greetings from cold Sweden
For daily work running around I use a 2.5 turbo-diesel Citroen XM Estate, great load carrier, carries way more than my old Range Rover and does 32 mpg.
Indeed!!! My other car (wifes car really, my road car is my G) is a w126 S-klasse. Even though it's from 1986, it still drives way better than my fathers brand new Saab, not to mention my mothers horrible brand new Subaru. Not to mantion it's had all the value loss it can have, so it's less expencive to keep as well. Hah!
Ordnung muss sein!

I also have an appreciation for the other German marques.
You can see mine listed below, I absolutely love my '89 928GT, velvet red over linen, happens to be the only GT in the US with those colors. My wifes road burner is a '98 BMW 750iL, V12, 18" sport wheels, black over sand, spectacular machine and the end of an era for BMW. I will never own a Bangle designed BMW.
Before adding the Chevy truck and Buick GS, we were an all German car household.
The E38 7 series is and will always be a Gorgeous car.
The E65 is a joke IMO. Looks like a wide body whale.
We are not alone in this. If one was to go to the BMW INDIVIDUAL factory, they have stocked up on loads of E38's for the BMW INDIVIDUAL modification program.
Apparently, BMW's high end INDIVIDUAL clients understand that the E38 is "superior" to the E65 and thus, they are buying the last ones and are having them fitted to their taste. I have a picture a friend sent to me of a bunch of E38's sitting waiting for modification.
(BMW Individual is the Haute Couture arm of the "M" division. They are not attached though. INDIVIDUAL is to BMW what Designo is to Mercedes-Benz)

P.S. As for Porsche, it is a shame they are now building SUV's and water cooled cars.
Air cooled was the way. Open and close the door of a 993 Twin Turbo and do the same with the door of a 996 Twin Turbo. The difference is truly spectacular!
The 996 just doesn't compare IMO.

Really? I've personally always thought of the old 7-series as an old mans car... To me it resembles a mid-ninties buick park avenue a bit too much. I was actually glad for the redesign, it just looks like a massive 5-series now. Still very roomy, but now with a more modern look and feel.
My father bought the car new in 1966. I started wrenching on it in 7th grade and drove it through high school and college. After college my father "reclaimed" it and had the fenders and rockers replaced and the entire car stripped and repainted. He drove if for a few more years and bought a C5 convertible. I got it back, rebuilt the front and rear suspension (this picture doesn't show it) and now use it as my summer car. Drives like new.
Dave - beautiful 230S. My dream car is a 1967-1973 300SEL 6.3, but there is a lot to be said for the slower pace and relative simplicity of your 230. I love the color and the hint of tail fin on the rear quarter panels. Very cool.

Uhg! The E65 is an abomonation. The i-drive is almost universally hated for its complexity. The styling with the turn signals just above the headlamps smacks of a '79 Ford F-150, nice styling cue[xx(] The cut lines in the HUGE big butt trunk make me want to cry.
Then they let the guy loose on the curvy Z3 and he destroyed that too, the Z4 is butt fugly. Now the five series has fallen under his pen, with equally disasterous results.
I have owned five BMW's but it isn't likely to happen again unless they dump Bangle and get back to designing classy, conservative looking cars with a healthy dose of sporting character. I have to agree that the "heritage" has been sacrificed to Bangles arrogance.
