Sideways
Here's a shot I scanned from Mercedes Geländewagen magazine. Looks like it's pushing the envelope further than I would.[:p]

right! in Oregon at the trials, Adam's rig and mine both had to go thru similar incline situations, however even worse! it also included a tight tree, stump, and downed tree slalom course.
We chose to winch sideways from both the front and rear of the vehicles to get them around the trees without almost inevitable body damage or hardtop cracking. We found the difference on that trail between having hardtop on the rear, and not in tight terrain. Adam's truck was able to get around more easily without having to worry.

So you might should think about a softtop when you go offroading ... [;)]
