Fahrzeugdaten & Colour Codes

Does anybody have any idea how to read the Fahrzeugdaten data card?

Also trying to figure out what colour my car is - the card lists it as 7172. Is there some chart somewhere that will tell me what colour this number actually is?

yes I can,....

1= Car Data
2=Vin
3=Engine Number (mine starts with 103 so it's an 300GE)
4=Type
5=Order Number
6=Production Number
7=Gearbox
8=Transfer Case
9=additional transfer ?? nebenantrieb
10=Customer
11-14 =Tires
15=Heating System
16=rims
17=Beams, lights
18=wipers
19=Winch
21=front axle 1
22=front axle 2
23 = rear axle 1
24 = rear axle 2
25 = Body
26 = Chassis cab
28 = Trailer tow bar
29 = Steering
30 = interior equipment
31-35 = colour code
36 = door lock
37 = steering lock
38 = Gear Lock
39 = Fuel cap lock
40 = Retarder

The rest are SA-Numbers (sonderausstattung - Extra)

for instance
01/01245810 is SA-Number 12458 . This should be the front axle locker.

So, if you have a long list , you should have a lot of extras...wrong, because simple things like tow - bars can be delievered with 4 SA's (socket 13 way, wiring for the socket, lable etc.) All of them have a separate Number...

If you want find out about your factory built in extras, pencile the numbers down, post them and I'll get them for you thoughted out.

Otherwise get yourselve a EPC = Electronic Part Catalog. With some luck, you should figure out what number stands for what extra.

Does the first 7 stand for something, as I saw on another site that 172 alone is Anthracite Grey, so whats the difference between 7172 and 172?

I persume you are referring to all the numbers on the bottom third? These are the extras?

How do I get an EPC?

the first 7 stands for "grey". The right code for Anthracite Grey is 7172. The other primary colors are (first digit are):

1 beige/ivory
2
3 red
4
5 blue
6 green
7 grey
8 brown
9 white/black/silver

Don't know what is 2 and 3.

Cheers

yes these are the extras. You go to the next MB dealer and ask for the EPC- Compact CD Rom.

I have paid 38 Euro or so and I got an CD, for my model only with all Spare part numbers.

Hope these will be also available in UK.
