PIAA G500 for upcoming SEMA show

A buddy of mine has been outfitting this 2003 G500 for the upcoming SEMA show in Las Vegas. They really did a nice job with it and said I was the first person they wanted to share the truck with. They REALLY wanted to make it to the Treffen and are planning to attend next year, but PIAA didn't want a single chip in the paint and it is being shipped in enclose transport. [xx(]

He did say that the sliders were a nice, sturdy bolt-on design and asked if anyone else would like a set. They designed them to match the flairs which allows them to act as a step. He thinks they would be in the $500 range. Let me know if this is something anyone would be interested in.

Anyway, it's one of the nicest expedition equipped G's I've seen in the USA and I had to share.

Wheel/Tire info

I believe he said they were Euro MB G wheels that they powered coated black and shod with 285/75/16 BFG MT's.

Harrold would approve.

I just really dig on the look of it. They removed anything chrome except the star and the V8 on the side. Just like mine I guess that's why I like it. Sure makes it look less Hollywood to me.

Agree on the lack of chrome looking good. WAY too much chrome is one of my bigger gripes about the AMG G55's. Makes them unattractively ugly, as opposed to just plain ugly! [}:)]

my take

Yup, like the tires.

Roof rack on only 4 legs will most likely collapse after the first 100 miles of dirt road.

Also, roof mounted lights create a glare on the hood which makes it really hard to see ahead. Baja racers used them for a short time only to abandon them for grille mounted lights.

I had my winch in the same location - not good. It takes too much away from the approach angle. Winch needs to be mounted higher.

Well,

I don't see the Wheels exactly, but here in Europe is the same design from the 18" rims available as 16" too.
Possible that these are the ones, only black painted, because I think, there are no 18" MT's available , or ??

18" BFG MT

There is a 35x12.50R18 but that size is larger than the 285/75-16 which is about 33".

Indeed there are 16" 'G500 wheels'. I believe they are used on the Sprinter which has the same bolt pattern LK 130/5.

Here is another one using the same rims and tires without the black powder coating.

They are not for the Sprinter, but for the armoured G500s. Propably to make room for bulletproof run-flat technology! They are sold by our dealer Fjelstad here in Norway, they say it's a populair rim for winter tires.
