How do you drive a G?

I am new to the G-wagen Off-road and I am finding it adictive.
1984 280GE Auto, 2 difflocks

Can I shift from 2-low to 4-high while running slowly? or do you put the gear shift in neutral first?
I maybe having problems with the transaxle as sometimes it gets stuck and I cannot change gears to park or reverse.

What about 4-high and 4-low? When we were running a creek bed with a Discovery I shifted into 4-low and locked the Diffs, put the air to about 10 pounds and in first gear used the break pedal and gas at the same time so I could slowly climb. I had two wheels in the air at one point and was a lot of fun. Once at the top put it in Park and ran back down in 2-high.
