Per M-B G Maintenance Service Manual

Diffs - 85W-90 Hypoid Gear Oil
TC - 85W-90 Gear Oil
Auto Trans - DEXRON (use latest iteration) ATF

On newer (electronic controlled) MB auto trans, I would only use the M-B ATF at about US$20/qt.

Personally, I use Redline products in the Diffs and TC. In the Diffs - 85W-90 Gear Oil and in the TC - MT-90 Gear Oil. The former is GL-5 and the latter is GL-4. I noticed a major improvement in quieting and power to the ground when I switched the 84 280GE to synthetics in the Diffs and TC; and an improvement in fuel economy of about 10% when I when I did the same to the G500.

Thanks DUTCH, I plan to go synthetic too. I really wish I had a manual so I wouldn't have to keep bothering you all.

There is no bother. Most of us love to help so much that we race to see who can be the first to offer assistance.[8D] But, you're right. A manual is a big help.

Auto Trans - 6.2 liters

TC - 2 liters

Front Diff - 1.1 liters

Rear Diff - 1.6 or 1.8 liters, depending on the axle. It changed in June 1982.

Re. Re. Re. Re. Re. Re. fluids....

The owners manual for the 300GD shows:
Manual transmission-1.7l (4 speed)
AT transmission- 7l
Transfer-2l
Front axle-1.4l
Rear axle-1.8L
Power steering-1l

Europa has 300GD owners manuals in stock for about $20 US. Ask Travis. I use the same oils as Dutch, Redline gear oils.
