500 miles on new car, and a fat stone chipped windshield! Any comments?
Nothing removes the "new car" glow faster than a stone flying up in a construction zone, at 30 mph, and chipping the windshield.
Anybody got any experience of the "drill and fill" type of windshield repair? Or should I hit my insurance company for a replacement? I hate to think of the assembly line finish (it was only built in November!) being torn out to paste in a new one.
As long as the windshield has not begun to crakc, the drill/fill meathod works just fine. Some might be reluctant to do it though if it is in your sight line from the drivers seat.
I would just have it repaired, it is the first of many you will collect. I have a buddy that repairs windshields. He started filling my chips in one day. We discovered no less than EIGHT spots that could have been fixed[:0] I had him do the few in front of the driver and waited until I had it in Santa Fe to be replaced.

I've had good success with windshield repairs on other vehicles and it's nice not to have to mess with the factory seal if it can be avoided.
I think it's worth a try as it's relatively inexpensive and some places even offer lifetime warranties on the repair.
In any case, I wouldn't worry about it. I know someone who has replaced the windsheild on his 2002 G500 and I couldn't even tell it was a replacement. His dealer had no problem getting the proper Sigla glass used at the factory.
