Is the bolt pattern the same?

Lokking to put different wheels on an 86 280, and the local shops are having a hell of a time. 9 out of 10 say I'll have to get custom ones made (1k+ each!), but 1 guy said all Mercedes have the same bolt pattern, a '5 on 112'. He says any wheel that fit any Mercedes should fit a G. Does that sound right? Can anyone recommend a wheel co that can fit a G?

No!

It's a Porsche (?5 on 120?) pattern. You also have a large center hole that is not present in other MB wheels.

Re: Porsche 5 on 130mm circle

The Porsche Fuchs wheels fit. I saw a set fitted to a SWB G in this months Panorama, the Porsche club mag.

Will any year fit?

Since mine is an 86, will a more recent set of rims still fit? i.e. Ebay item #1845587248 for instance? I'd hate to drop a bunch of cash on G-rims that don't fit. Thanks a lot for the help everybody-

Those are 5 x 112, so. . . . .

the answer will be 'No'.

The best folks to ask are at Europa in Santa Fe, NM. They can tell you what will and will not fit your G.

Re: Those are 5 x 112, so. . . . .

Also, I've had adapters made up so I can use 'off-the-shelf' 5x5.5' wheels instead. Also, if you fit larger tires it is much easier to man handle a wheel onto 5 studs then to try and line up five holes and screw in one of the lug bolts! They were like $75/ea I think.

Re: Is the bolt pattern the same?

$1K for custom wheels? I don't think you need to go to that extreme. I had a set of wheel custom drilled for my G500, at a cost of $150 each wheel (wheel + drilling).

The G500 is turning out to be the cheapest Mercedes to customize!

Here's a pic from the evoworks show last weekend. Sorry you can't see the wheels really, but you can tell the tires have been changed.
