Clutch slave failure (Again!)

It's the 3rd time in the 18 months I've owned my 280GE (1983) that my clutch slave has failed, and I had to replace it. Same symptoms as before: clutch pedal would get stuck on the floor and would not return to its position, unless it was pulled manually, fluid in the master cylinder reservoir got very low (close to min. level).
The last time I mentioned this problem on the board, I remember several people commented that the cause of this problem was the heat coming from the exhaust, which damages the rubbers in the slave. Is there's anything else I should look for?

Repair Kits

You do know that there are repair kits available to rebuild the slave at less than 1/4 the cost of a new cylinder.

Repair Kits

I only have the one for the 5-speed. They may or may not be the same part number. The cylinders themselves are different, but I'd bet that the innards are the same.

Re: Clutch slave failure (Again!)

Did the slave show signs of fluid leaking?
And if not check master cyl.!
Because brake fluid does not boil away nor does
it evaporate So if it is has fluid lost it's going some where!

Re: Clutch slave failure (Again!)

The fluid leaks were located in the slave. No traces of fluid anywhere else.
