My new shock numbers are the same as the previous yellow shocks (B46-0504 and B46-0514). They were purchased in Germany. The part numbers are the same still shown on the Bilstein website (see URL)
So my guess is that they've decided to change the color to black.
Anyway, I haven't looked at the springs yet. I have put the tire pressure at 32/38 to try to remain as close to the manufacturer's specs as possible. The car does feel more stable in cornering and braking, but the ride is definitely still rough and jumpy. I mean when i'm driving on bad roads, if I don't go slowly my head will hit the roof! The back end feels particularly hard, as if there are some worn out bushings (feels like metal to metal almost). And I don't care what others say about the comfort level of the SWB vs the LWB, something is seriously wrong with my car. I've driven two other 280GE SWB (1986 and 1989), and they were both very steady.
It seems that no one has ever had this problem, but I would like to know where to look to resolve this. Someone mentioned the chassis bushings, are there any in particular that I should look at?

Bilstein.com (W460 shocks)

Basically its a process of elimination and it appears you have already replaced or examined most of the obvious components.
