Opinions for G300E LWB

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about to buy a '95 G300E LWB. Currently, I drive a Land Rover Discovery at the moment, but it is a "Lemon One". I need to have a reliable 4WD for daily use onroad and offroad. Please advise whether the G300E is a reliable one. Also where can I find model details of '95 G300E LWB?
Greetings from Hong Kong!!
HT

In '95 I think you would be looking at a G320, the 300s were superseeded in mid '94 by the more powerful 320. You will not be dissappointed by the Gwagen, they are super tough and very reliable. It is a much better built vehicle than the Rover.

Re: Opinions for G300E LWB

I had a 96 Discovery and replaced it with a 2000 G500. Although the G500 arguably is improved from the G300; ANYTHING has to be better than the Discovery. I had non-stop maintenance problems with mine (they are ALL lemons if you ask me). I've got just over 20,000 miles on the G in one year, and all I've done so far is ONE oil change/ "A" service. The G's are solid and reliable.

That engine won't stay solid and reliable for very long with that kind of care, at least not in my experience. DUTCH

Re: Opinions for G300E LWB

The G500 has the flexible service system- the vehicle computes when an oil change is necessary. Is is based on a 10,000 mile interval and then adjusts based on use, driving habits, etc. While oil changes between intervals couldn't hurt, is anybody suggesting that the recommendations made by the vehicle's computer are inappropriate? Curious what Jason at GWagen has to say on this. (By the way, I only use synthetic oil).

However, I - personally - would *never* go 10,000 miles on an oil change; M-B computer/synthetic oil or not. I like my engines to last a long time between major overhauls; and clean oil with all its inhibitors in place is a major contributer to that.
I, too, am curious as to what Jason has to say; although my opinion of dealers is that they want to sell service and new vehicles when the old one wears out - the sooner and more frequently the better. DUTCH

There are tons of opinions on oil change intervals. Instead of buying into conventional wisdom I have looked at the scientific testing side. In addition to my personal vehicles I also have a couple semi tractors for business. Acceptable oil change intervals can run 25,000 miles easily, with those running synthetic going as far as 50,000. This is on engines with million mile life expectancies. Regular oil analysis is part of the equation. As it turns out the more modern vehicles are MUCH easier on oil. Something like Dutch's 280GE may NEED 5,000 mile intervals, while a new G500 keeps its oil cleaner because of better fuel management that keeps oil cleaner by more efficiently burning the fuel and therefore less gets into the oil and breaks it down. Oils are also much better today, especially synthetics. The synthetics carry none of the by-products of dino stock that can add to engine wear. Oil analysis on my cars has shown no significant oil breakdown after 5,000 miles of use. That is generally when I change on my G. I also use the flexible oil scheduler on my wifes '98 750iL. It seems to go between 10-12,000 before recomending a change. BMW pays for the changes up 50,000 miles and the car is covered to 100k so the incentive to change more often is nil. Thats a little more than 2 cents worth, but after quite a bit of research it is the method I use.
