(oops) ...ent*tled '1984' It looks '1984' is upon us, with Big Brother in the form of CDA software, reducing our rich vocabulary in order to protect us from, what, "badspeak"? I didn't know there was a problem on this bulletin board with vulgarity -- was there?<br>Unfortunately, in addition to losing the words (noted in earlier messages) alt*tude and subst*tute, we are losing fort*tude, apt*tude, rect*tude, t*tle, ent*tled, and on and on. And who knows what other t*tillating (and banned) syllables are hidden in our English language.<br>Get me the Soma pills!<br>Is there no hope left for our culture? Hundreds of years developing a rich language, and our own monstrous creation, computer software, now tears it apart in the guise of just trying to protect us.<br>Maybe our Frankenstein's Monster isn't some hulking menace, but a subtle control of expression?<p><br><p> |
