What's the chance of seeing 400CDI's being brought into Canada. MB reps here say the fuel in North America is no good. What's that all about? This is a off-road, go anywhere bad boy and it can't take the local diesel? Sounds like horse to me. I wonder what the real story is? Help me out here guys.

Atlanta is not really an off road paradise.
I do remember several years ago that the local Union 76 Truck Stop used to sell #1 Diesel and #2 Diesel. The #1 was more expensive; and was - supposedly - cleaner burning. Since I've never driven a smoker, I never really paid it much attention.

Has anyone had any fuel related problems with older diesel Gs? My wife has a 2000 Golf Tdi and we've had no fuel related problems at all in 20,000kms. What guarantees does one have as to the actual grade of fuel (any fuel) we're using anyway? What happens if you want to travel through South America or go to Africa? Diesel, any diesel, will be the order of the day. I don't think fuel is the reason, I think MB/USA and MB/CANANDA have other agendas.

:: I don't think fuel is the reason, I think MB/USA and MB/CANANDA have other agendas.
Actually, it could be related to getting the engine clean enough to pass the EPA emmissions testing requirements.
I remember reading a while back that M-B was not going to bring in one or some diesel engine(s) for their passenger cars for this very reason. They were not able to meet the standards without major modifications to the engine; and they felt that it would defeat the purpose of the high engine performance.

It's a real pity as the 400CDI motor has the right amount of torque for a crawler. Thanks for the info.
