Re: Kit turbo & 300 GD

Fred,
This is made by a company in the UK, and it's a supercharger, not a turbo. They have a web site.
http://www.tdi-plc.com/Merc300GEclass.html
Seems like a great deal if you already have a 300GE, especially the one that bolts on and off easy.
Mercedes 300GE
stock 170hp@5500-255Nm@4250
supercharged 265hp@5500-385Nm@4250

cheers,
Mike

Re: Kit turbo & 300 GD

Hi Fred,
for the "old" 300 GD with OM 617 there is two different kits:
1. STT Svenska Turbo Technic - they have a dealer/workshop network throughout the world. An expert retro fit when applied correctly.
2. The original OM 617 A which uses the same basics as the 617 but has extensive modifications to it (pressurised oil-cooling for the pistons, sodium filled valves and a few "minor" bits and pieces. The 617 A was never availbale ex works in the G, retaining full offrod-ability of the the G is therefore a task for an expert (only a handful in the world) when converting !
The same goes for the OM 603 in the "newer" G´s.
It is never a good idea to fit a turbo-kit to an older engine. Also keep in mind, that the 711.2 gearbox of the G will not cope with the extra torque, only the 711.1 oder the Getrag gearbox can.
Best of luck - frank

Fitting the kit is easier on some models than others.460s are easier than 463s but you must have good technical skills ,fabrication skills ,equipment, nerve and patience. The best kit is STT in sweden and you need to speak to Glenn Berglund at glenn.berglund@stt.se STT say you can fit in 3 days but it took me 2 weeks.
The cost was 26000 swedish krona plus vat for my 463 model cheaper i think for 460.Was it worth it absolutely! I cannot describe the difference only by saying it is a totally different vehicle and actually accelerates yet the fuel consumption has hardly altered
Although the kit is not cheap it is superb quality and looks like oem equipment hope this helps.Remember if you want to go you have got to blow .TURBO DIESELS RULE OK.
