OK wise men/women,
I need to purchase some studded tyres for my 1980 230 SWB Cabrio since in Anchorage Alaska this year we skipped the snowy phase of winter and went right to ice and have stayed there for months. The tyres on the rig right now are Brigestone Dueler XT 30x9.50 15 LT. The only tyres I can find in town right now which can be studded are 235-75R15. Are these basically compatable (The spedo reads in KM/Hr any way so a change there is not going to be noticeable but the RPM issue is important).
I have an urgent need for another set of rims for my summer tyres now too. I have 15" BBS alloys now and would love a set of factory alloys. Any thoughts on where to get five more rims from? They need not be new nor totally beautiful.
Thanks for all the help!
Adam
1980 230G Cabrio

Check rim width compatability on a tire manufacturer's web site. For example, this site:
http://www.dunloptire.com/tires/Rover_rt.html
says that 235-75s are compatable with 6-7" rim widths. I think the 16" factory steel wheels on my G are 6" wide, so they should be okay. I've never measured a bare G-rim of my own, though, much less your BBS wheels. Get your rim specs, then check the tire mfg's specs.
As far as tires go, I like these Dunlop RR/RTs in the Rocky Mtn winter. They're a little soft so they grip snow-pack pretty well, and they're studable. Tire Rack will ship to you (do a web search for their site, don't have it handy)......Only drawback is the soft compound makes them a little short lived on the pavement.....maybe 25k miles.
-Dave G.

I replaced my factory alloys with 463 wheels and would sell 4 @ $500 + shipping fob Los Angeles.
Adam Chovanak
206.937.7420

: Check rim width compatability on a tire manufacturer's web site.
