I am the proud new owner of a 2005 G500 (70K miles), pewter in color (to match my 2005 SL500!). I am the 3rd owner of this apparently garage kept and near flawless beast (car was "Starmarked" after original owner put 58K miles on it), however, as with any used car, it is not quite perfect. So after hours of trolling this and other G-Wagen forums to no avail....here are some questions I hope can be answered:
1. The multi-contour drivers seat functions (ie-lumbar support/air cushion) do not work. No "air" is going to the control switches. I have inspected the entire system under the seat and under the hood...no leaks, no obvious problems. Anyone have this problem fixed before?
2. Would like to replace the drivers seat bottom (its a little worn). Anyone DIY'ed this,,,or know where to get the part(s) cheap? Mostly the leather is the issue....not the cushion underneath.
3. Would love to retrofit the following: a) ambient light pkg from MY 2010, b) MY2007 steering wheel/airbag/buttons, c) MY2007 Instrument cluster, d) DVD based COMAND system (anyone make this work?).
4. Also, has anyone added Bluetooth to a DB2 system without tel/linguatronic pre-installed? (ie- Argos system).
5. Update to "new style" chrome key (its cool looking!)
FYI, though this is my 1st G class, I am very familiar with the CLK & SL Classes, and therefore am pretty MB savy.....not a "noob"! ;-) Thanks, Rick.
1 - i'd start by checking if the switch is actually working. Those can go bad
2 - the leather is bad already? really? can't help otherwise. Never heard of any DIY'ers doing it. But removing it from the car and bringing it to a shop should help keep the price down because they will inflate the price when they see what you drive up in...
3 - only thing i can say on this is that half of the 2007's have a bunch of buttons that don't even work on the steering wheel, so my bet is that you probably can switch steering wheels, but will then loose funcitonality of the buttons... chances are that the 2007's with updated steering wheel didn't have updated electronics to support them. For all of this stuff i think you're actually best of starting with the car forums to see if any cars have similar interiors to yours, and then updated to what you want... see if anyone has done it there... never heard of any of it here. This all sounds prohibitively expensive if you ask me.
4 - many people are using a bluetooth module to get their systems to work with newer phones. That's all i know.
5 - no idea. same recommendation as on item 3... check other forums. MB keys are enormously expensive so i'd guess it's a rediculously expensive proposition.
