2010 USA G550 Trailer hitch ?

In this brochure of the MBUSA G550 on page 3 bottom gray box they mention the trailer hitch kit. I wonder if the hitch mounting braket is back on the 2010 US Gwagen.

2010 USA G550 Trailer hitch ?

Good question. I noticed the same thing about the G55 and asked my dealer but they have no information. I (truthfully) told them that I would place my order as soon as they figured this out but they have not been able to learn anything in the past week or two.

Does anyone have ideas on how to figure this out?

I haven't tried yet. I just got the instructions from Oris today but they're all in German so I have to get them translated. I looked under the rear of the truck but the big skid plate that covers the gas tank is in the way of seeing the mounting point (I assume there's a mounting point there anyway!). I may also just mount it to the skid plate and mount the skid plate to the truck better with a couple of extra bolts. If it was a heavy trailer I wouldn't do this, but since it's just 1000 lbs the skid plate is more than strong enough to hold it, especially if I mount the skid plate better with a couple more bolts.

The "ball" is metric and smaller than the standard 2" hitch ball here in the US. The trailer coupler might not fit the way you like it. Be careful!!!!

the mounts for trailer hitch are gone on your g550. There is no provision for adding a receiver or hitch to the 2009 trucks. There was recently one for sale with less than 500 miles for just this reason. Owner bought it thinking he could tow with it, which is very logical. But it's not the case. Sorry to bear the bad news.

The steel plates that have been welded to the frame since some 1979 are gone from the USA trucks in 2009... not in all countries but the vehicles with larger gas tank and larger skid plate as we have here in the USA for 2009... you're out of luck. Your only option is to go custom with the mounts, and no-one as of yet has figured out if there wiring is still in the trucks to accomodate a trailer if you did go custom. I would contact Eurotruck or Vlad to see if they can figure out if the EPC (parts catalog) says the wiring is still present.

Is the skid plate steel or aluminum? You will have some serious liability issues mounting the hitch ball to a gas tank/skid plate cover... good luck with that...

The gas tank is the same size...just the skidplate is bulkier. I think that the skid is steel.

That sounds like a very bad idea and also like something that could net you a nice warranty clause failure if you ever had an accident.

You just need to have a very good shop re-create and weld a mounting plate to the steel tube cross member and then send those parts back unless they were meant to mount directly to a 2005-2008 model without issue.

Just go take some detailed photos of an older model and show them to the hitch shop along with what you want to mount. It should be very easy, easier than removing the bumper to gain access.

Wiring, may be a whole different story. I'd consult the parts dept and a master tech about that. Without the mount built at the factory, the wiring may not be in place either.
