Several forum members asked me to post pictures of my DNX8120 installation. The work was done by Jamie Schuh at Spokane Audio Video Experts in Spokane.
The entire system installation took three days. The specific cost for the Kenwood unit, bluetooth and custom dash kit was $400. Unfortunately, the kit required for the steering wheel controls was not available for the G-class.
The only issue I have had with the entire system is an occasional software glitch with the DNX8120. It usually resolves itself if I turn the deck on and off a couple of times.
If anyone is interested in purchasing any of the stock equipment (including Command unit, door speakers, amp and CD changer) send me a pm. My G500 is a lwb 2004 model.
Thanks

You should really take a look at the back of the command unit and the wiring harnesses and compare it to other mercedes vehicles. There is no kit avaliable to retain the steering wheel controls on my 2000 g500 either but i found the stereo and everything (on the back side of the unit like the CAN bus harness) appeared to be the same as a different vehicle of similar vintage (i can't remember which)... and i've got mine working just fine.
I don't think there's nothing too special about the command system in the G (as there wasn't before either) so i would suspect you just need to do some careful homework on it if you want to get it to work.
Can you take pics of the speakers please?? I want to see what the dash speakers up front looks like! If you can take pics of all the speakers, then it will be great!
BTW, what did you do with the subwoofer under the rear bench?
BTW#2, very nice install...looks very integrated!

The steering wheel controls and the clock on the dashboard display are the only two features that no longer work. I never used the steering wheel controls anyway, but the clock is a little annoying. The clock function on the Kenwood works well.
Here is a picture of the sub woofer and amplifier in a custom enclosure. The other speakers were installed using the factory locations and appear stock.
