I know this is a "Basic" post for you Pro's. I am directing it to fellow "novice" wrenchers. If you done it a million time in the past, you are wasting your time reading this post.
I use a European WIS, which has different Mileage Specs on the ASSYST/Service Sheet. "Conveniently" the USA Sheet makes the intervals to lie JUST outside the "Included Maintenance" period of 4 yrs/50,000 miles.
One such service is the Differential Oil Change. Euro WIS- 80,000km (~48,000 Miles), USA- 60,000 Miles. I opted for the more conservative interval, and am doing the work at 50,000.
Although the Redline oil is NOT included on Sheet 235.7, I have used it on other vehicles for several years, and there is a VERY positive "thumbs-up" from other forum members. I am NOT promoting it's use. Included is the Spec Sheet 235.7:
It is suggested to do the change with the Oil "warm". Use caution with hot oil!!!
Hi there, thanks very much for the DIY guides. They are certainly very helpful. I just have a quick question regarding the 463 (2002 G500). The owner's manual shows the various oil types for the Transfer Case, Front Diff., and Rear Diff, which you have covered on the couple of threads here. However the manual also indicated an oil type (DOT 3+4) for the "differential lock mechanism." Can you advise whether this is the separate system that needs to be serviced and how?

Thanks a lot!
Mr. Bean, I think you are talking about the Hydraulic Fluid (ie. Brake Fluid), used in the Differential Actuation System. And YES it needs to be changed regularly. Personally, I do it ONCE A YEAR.
Yes, the Service Sheet for USA says change brake fluid each TWO years, but if you look at the European WIS Sheet, it is EVERY YEAR.
Since I live in a very hot/humid environment, I do it once a year. Since the differential system is right next to the brake reservoir, I do the flush at the same time.
I am due for the flush service, so I will post, if that will help you!
