Question 6X6 G-WAGEN INFO, PLANNING A POSSIBLE CONVERSION.

Hi, I've been looking at pictures lately of the 6x6 g-wagens. What i want to know is: 1) How the drive is transmitted to the rear axles? 2) How is the rear suspension set-up?
As far as the drive is concerned is it fitted with a transfer box with 2 rear prop-shafts or has the 1st rear axle got a through shaft like a heavy truck.
Is the rear suspension just 2 sets of coil springs or a different set-up all together.
Any pictures of the underside would be a great help.
CHEERS Frank.

Actually James that is a Peugeot P4 rather than a Mercedes but the concept is the same.

You can find some details at the website of Christian de Leotard who is the builder of the vehicle shown in James' post.

As far as Mercedes is concerned, I am reliably informed that there was a Sales Conference held in Graz in June during which the 'official' MB 6x6 version was to be presented. I haven't seen anything come out of that conference as yet but it seems to me that this would be the best source for the information required.

The attached image is from the Brochure put out for the Australian Army Tender.

I hope that this is of some help

John

Wow, that is sweet, so the 6x6 is a variant that MB actually manufactures. I always assumed the 6x6's I see every now and then on the net are all one off custom jobs.

Frank-cj421,

Here are some photos of a Mercedes Benz Geländewagen G-class 6x6 motor home proposed design, 6x6 Brabus Airstream, 6x6 traveling on a country road and a 6x6 owned by the royal family of Saudi Arabia.

Respectfully,

James Van Thach

Hi James- can you please give us more details on the "6x6 Brabus Airstream". Is this a production model? Is this type of modification available to GWagons at a modifier or is this a one off? Any info would be appreciated!
