I'm not German, but live in Germany (nowhere near Potsdam, however.) I can talk you through the process of getting a DEKRA seal, if you want. That might be a lot better than having a fellow G-man glance it over.
Is the seller private, or a business?
A look at this should show you how many DEKRA inspections stations are in/around Potsdam:

They do a very good job of inspecting cars. If the truck gets the DEKRA Siegel (Seal), you should be good to go. The paperwork DEKRA gives reads either like a clean bill of health or a long list of expensive and necessary repairs.
Good sellers will have the truck tested for you - though they'll probably ask you to pay the 50 or so quid the inspection'll cost.
Lemme know if this does/doesn't help. I know a very good mechanic in Berlin who might be willing to check it out for you, but that would probably end up costing more and being worth less than a DEKRA inspection...
FWIW, my Unimog had a Dekra inspection just before I bought it. The fact that the owner had just done this, and sent me the full report, help to convince me it would be a decent vehicle. I nervously paid a $1kEuro deposit on it, sight unseen.
It turned out to be just as expected, maybe even better, as it's one of the most reliable vehcicles I've ever owned. And that's saying a whole lot for a diesel truck with portal-axles, diff locks, 40-inch tyres, 20 speed transmission with front and rear dual-speed live PTO's, double-stage clutch, exhaust-brake, 4 hydraulic circuits, air-brakes, air trailer brake lines, air trailer brake lines for tandem trailers, 24v electrics and a 3-way dump bed with 2-way tailgate.
