Interesting Comments About the G in a Forbes Article About the New GL

Interesting comments. Sounds like Mueller is upset that the G still lives. Good!

Quote:
The GL has been the subject of some confusion because of another Mercedes SUV with a similar name, the boxy G-Class.

"The G-Class was supposed to disappear," said Mueller at the GL's media introduction. In fact, the company chose the name "GL" to commemorate what it thought would be an extinct G-Class. The Germans wanted to kill the G because it is an ancient vehicle, and because they were developing the full-size model.

But Mercedes has military contracts to produce the G-Class for ten more years. And in finding that civilians are still interested in the vehicle, the company has decided to keep it on sale to the public for at least the rest of the decade.

While the offbeat G-Class has a small but devoted following, the GL-Class is all about aiming down the middle. Its targets are traditional families and mainstream SUV buyers
Isn't it nice to be a part of that "small but devoted following"! [:p]

An option on the new GL will be a soccer ball decal for all the soccer moms.

The ultimate kid hauler.

The G-class is like a fine wine, every year is good, the old ones are special, and the new are bound to become just that.
I Love That Quote!

That's good to hear Dutch,
I would love to show this text to that MB salesperson in Toulouse, the guy was convinced that the G production had been stopped, i hated his look when i asked him about the G "Why the hell is this young man asking about that boxy old fashionned car?" They'll never understand.
Long life to the G[:)]

"Its targets are traditional families"

The assumption being that G wagen owners belong to non traditional families.
Gosh no wonder the neighbours don't talk to me!

RE: Interesting Comments About the G in a Forbes Article About the New GL

The new GL will not have the optional "James Bond" smoke screen feature that my '85 300 GD has. Many a HONDA has had to back off the bumper when I engage this option in traffic. If they refuse to back off I can employ the trailer hitch "harpoon" to disable the radiator. These sort of special options are not even mentioned in the GL literature.[;)]
