We just bought 50 acres in Bocas Del Toro, Panama. While I was in Panama, I did not see any G-Wagons and hardly and Mercedes at all (even in Panama City).
I would love to get another G-Wagon while I am in Panama, but I am afraid that I would have NO access to parts. If I am unable to locate a G-Wagon, I have been thinking of buying a used Toyota Land Cruiser...
Do any of you have a G-Wagon in Panama? What do you think?
Chuck

When I was there about 5 years ago, I saw 2 or 3 Gs over a 3 week period and remember driving past a MB dealer in Panama City. Dealer support would likely be there. When searching on the net before going, I even saw one available for rent from a PC rental company (expensive and in the pics it looked like it had gone to hell and back however). They are there but not too common I wouldn't think. On the same trip while in Costa Rica for the same amount of time, I lost count of the number of Gs I spotted.
Beautiful country and you must own a part of one of the nicest areas of it. You are very fortunate!

If I remember correctly, the Costa Rican government purchased a large number of G-Wagons in the early 90's. I'm pretty positive that they would all be diesel. I will have to look there first. Anything that has been there for 10-15 years would definitely see alot of use. There are still highways in Costa Rica that could swallow a Volkswagon. [:D]
If you want service for a G, the best place to go for service, parts and repairs is San Jose, Costa Rica. The dealership from there was represented at last years meeting in Graz. They were talking about expanding their company into Panama.
I lived in Panama from 1973 until 1998 and never saw a G-Wagen. The local MB dealership was a sideline of the Olds/Pontiac dealer. (La Guardia & Co). No parts. But anything could be ordered at outragious prices.
I'll sell you my G and you can drive it down there. How's that?

That Costa Rican dealer sells more G's per capita than any other dealer worldwide. That from an inside source at DCAG.
I have a nephew in Germany who wants to sell his 1998 SWB G 300TD.
The environmental laws have changed where he has only limited driving privileges. (Emission issues). Let me know if you are interested.
If you get a G in Panama I can help you out with parts from here in San Jose.
Right now I'm looking at a 80ish SWB with a 617A swap auto transmision wich is selling for $5600. Needs some work. The guy also has a lwb with a TD in it.
You could try to find out how much taxyou would have to pay to import from Costa Rica to Panama.
