Newbie here...Parts questions for you guys...please help
What is this that i have read that the G class doesn't fit in a reg garage? Is this true? What is the total height exactly? Can someone measure for me? Also where can i find the front brush guard/push guard with the little bars that protect the headlights (i would like in black finish too) How much should i expect to pay new, and used? Also where can i get the rear light grills also. Lastly, where can i find the europlate that says "G Wagen"
Oh one more thing, where can i see pics for G wagens with diff wheels...i dont want anything too bling bling, but maybe 20" and clean looking?
thanks in advance
ill take emails with responses too sceaton@gmail.com

Welcome! Where are you from - if you update your iinfo to the left, it might be easier to help you.
I think a standard G will fit in a 7 foot garage. Mine has a slight lift and fits in the 8 foot opening with at least a foot to spare. I'd measure it for you but its outside right now and it is minus 5 F.
There is a brush guard on the clubgwagen classifieds. The headlight grills can be had new sometimes on Ebay or you could try Sean at Eurotruck.com. Prices vary all over the place. IF you are in Europe they are cheap - in the US they cost more. Ditto for rear light grills.
I personally think they are cosmetic - I have never damaged a tail light or a front turn signal let alone a headlight on any of the 3 Gs I have owned.
The G-wagen plate can be had on line -maybe some one will chime in - they are around. I used to have one in fact - It got left in a snow bank somewhere in Southcentral Alaska.
Wheels - well now there is an easy answer. Herald has a great site for that an lots of other G-wagen stuff. Here - http://www.4x4abc.com/G-Class/wheels/index.html

Good questions,
1) The grill guards are difficult to find but if you look around on this forum or others you may see one. Ebay just had a new one last night for $799 + S/H but its gone already (no surprise). I picked up one in November for about $1000 including shipping. It was used but in pretty good shape. I don't know if you can get them from the dealer anymore.
2)The tailight guards and Gwagen front plate can be found at:

Oh yeah I forgot: Official height is 72.3 inches with stock wheels and rims. I actually measured my garage to make sure it would fit. I've got a whopping 1.7 inches to spare. No safari rack in my future unless I decide to move to accomodate my vehicle.

If you have a standard US sized residential 7' garage, it will be close. My stock G500 won't fit in mine. Neither will a stock SIIA Land Rover with tropical roof, or a U1100 Unimog :). I'll go measure my G500 for you.
There are variables in the garage door height too. While the opening is high enough on mine, the door itself won't go all the way to the top. DOn't know if it need adjustment or if it's not mounted properly, but it won't go all the way.
Garret
[EDIT] I just measured G500 on level ground with about 500 lbs of crap in the back is approximately 77" max height. My garage door allows about 76" min clerance. I can push my door up by hand an extra 3 inches or so, so it would probably fit if I got the door worked out to open higher.

Gs also have some difficulty in parking garages. I forgot all about this but was brought back to reality when I smacked into one of those PVC pipes that hangs in front of the enterance to the garage at the airport.

These are coupled with a prototype 463 Cabrio body that replaced the old rusty 460 Cabrio body. Body is unique in that the tailgate opens like a door on a stationwagon rather than like a truck tailgate. The latest addition is the Schmude 5 piece hardtop that gives plenty of flexibility without having to remove the entire hardtop for open air driving.

Just measured mine. 76". Not sure where the 72.3" quoted in the specs came from. Sorry about the confusion. Should still fit in most garages. Watch
out for the pipes, I've whacked a couple myself. Surprisingly the little antenna nubbin hasn't gotten ripped off yet. The advantage of the height is that nobody can see that my roof is scratched all to hell. Bonus!

My own '86 300GD is around 200cm tall on 235/75 R15 wheels. I only use that dimension in the winter, though, so I have a few cm extra from the 31x10,5R15 wheels I normally use.
One of the parking garages around here is only 210cm tall at the lowest, so there's a tight fit. It's very cramped too, with narrow parking spaces and narrow asles, so with the wide turning circle of the G, it's a lot of manouvering to park and to get out. I don't like parking there very much...
Do yourself a favour and go for 16" wheels. That way, your car looks like what it's meant to be - an offroader, and not a bling bling gangsta thing...
