MBUSA has posted the specs and glossies for the GL Class on their web page at
MBUSA.com/GLClass
You need to have a User Name and Personal Access Code to get past the welcome page. MBUSA sent those out to buyers of G500s, and I got one in the mail yesterday.
If anyone want a code to get into that, email me and I'll send you mine. Just don't order one for me!
not to be a stick in the mud (no pun intended) but i doubt a big minivan is going to drive tire options for us. In some ways i think these vehicles are making the situation worse, becuase the "bigger" market is to make fancy looking tires for these vehicles... not pratical and harsh conditions performing tires for real use. and if i company has only so much time and money to invest in options for 18" rims, guess which market the "should" target if they want to make more money! :( I'm not holding my breath, though i would prefer to be wrong... maybe the toyota's will help us though.
Ewalberg, there is hope...remember, Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor recently came out in this size. And unlike some opinions on here, i think that it is a step in the right direction. BFG AT KO may have to step up to compete with the Goodyears. Goodyear Wrangler SA has been getting very good press coverage, which may force other tire manufacturers to compete for this size especially now that this size is getting popular. Before this year, very few vehicles came with 265/60/18 from factory (actually, i think that only the G500 came with this size).
Currently, there is apparently a trend towards building off-roading vehicles and accessories...see FJ Cruiser, Hummer H3, Xterras, and highly publicized '07 Jeep Rubicon. Just look at the commercials for the Toyota 4runners.
Saigon, i basically agree with you that it can only get better. But I can barely imagine a GL user even putting that Goodyear Silent Armor tire on there... let alone something more agressive than that. But i would like to be wrong. The issue i see ahead is the P-series vs. LT rated tires... despite quite a few options in 17" sizes, virtually all of them are p-series with minimal tread depth, and 17's have been common for a long time.
It's the likes of toyota vehicles etcetera that is more encouraging for me. The infiniti FX SUV with 18" rims uses the same tires size since introduction 3 years ago... that certainly didn't help much, but a majority of owners have the 20's option i think.
If we're lucky it'll be the next couple years that really grow the tire options.
I'd like to see an honest BFG A/T, Bridgestone Dueler Revo A/T, and maybe a Perelli Scopion A/T. On the Tundra forums they're pretty much hammered out that the Dueler Revo is the best A/t which almost as good as the BFG a/t but not as durable sidewall, and the BFG is the most durable and capable but not so smooth on the road.
Actyually, what i want is Hipines BFG Commercial Traction A/T in 285/70r17 or 285/65r17 but pigs will fly before they do that... that can't even manage to release the existing 265/75r16 version of that here (it's in canada).
