Hello G owners, I am with a problem, when I tried to find in the EPC about the brake caliper pistons (I need one that is damaged) I found two, I says that one is an inside piston and the other in an outside piston, so I went to the Mercedes dealer I they could not explain wich one they should request, they didnt have any stock. Does anybody has a clue about this? I already bought Mercedes caliper repair kit (40€), but one of the pistons is damaged and the repair kit brings only the seals and the dust cover.
Hopefully you remember which spot the piston came from in the caliper. If so, hold the caliper next to the rotor in its mounting position to determine if the piston in question came from the inside or the outside of the caliper.
If necessary, I can check a few pistons when I'm back at the shop tomorrow.
The two pistons that came in the EPC, one costs 25 euros and the other costs 15 euros, looking to the 4 pistons of the same caliper they are exactly all the same, they have the same measures, thanks by the tip Ian, Its much more easier to find an Iveco, Even my father has a van like that, thanks [8D]
I have in the last few days resealed mcalipers.Perrot type.
All but one were marked (H) on the lower side or unmachined part of the caliper piston, the 8th marked (G).
Should you have difficulty removing the pistons use a grease gun, use either oil or water or brake fluid as a pressure fluid simply screwing in the male thread of the gun into the caliper or use an old flex if it has a male female conection.
You may need to use sleeves and some metal spacers to stop the piston from blowing out if the opposite one is tight.
Clean up with Scotchbrite and CAREFULL use of fine wet and dry paper to remove any rust lips.
Use a bottle brush to remove any deposits in the caliper body groves.
Degrease and assemble wetting all touching parts with brake fluid.
The seals need a considerable force to expand the metal gaiter ring and rubber, do not lubricate or the seal will pull away during use
As a guide to test the freeness of the caliper, drop the caliper sideways onto ablock of wood the upper pistons should have moved down by equal ammounts.
