G Class safety

Hi Guys,

Anyone know how safe the G Class is. I have searched 16 pages and couldnt find anything. I know MB is known for being the safest cars around.(I own 2)

But I'm looking at a G class for the wife and kids.

any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Anyone know how safe the G Class is.
It does drive like a "safe" on rails. [|)]

The G-Class is not a soccer mom's grocery getter.

Seriously, put her in an ML, the R Class or the new GL. She'll be much happier.

She currently drives a 98 eclass wagon 4 matic. But she loves the G Class. I am looking at a 2002 ML and R class but her #1 choice so far is the G class. we will see what a test drive does.

any other comments appreciated

Regina LOVES her G500... but she is known to enjoy the regular trip off road and the cheers from our three (soon to be four)...

I agree with DUTCH... if you have not even test driven the G; then the love described sounds more like LUST... alot of girls like the cute guy in school, doesn't always pay the bills, but he looks so good in pictures...[:X]

For your convenience: http://www.mbusa.com/models/future/glclass/index.do

ps. Regina's previous ride was an E320 Wagon,,, loved it too until she caught G-fever... we really enjoy the roomy Europa model[;)]

Like it or not, I believe this crash-test video pretty much sums up the G's performance:

RE: G Class safety

The G wagen is not a unit-body type vehicle. It is a body on frame type vehicle. It is widley accepted that unit-body type vehicles are safer because they transfer energy around the frame in the event of an accident. Im not saying the G is unsafe (it is a safe vehicle) but when comparing it to a new ML or a GL or even a new R it is not going to score as well in the crash tests. Not to mention but MB only started putting side airbags in the G on the 2005 models. The ML has had them since 98... Then comes the way the G drives. It does not handle so "carlike" like the new ML. If you had to do an emergency lane change at high speeds in a G in adverse weather I honestly would rather be in a ML. Im not bashing the G. It is a safe vehicle but there are safer...But in the grand scheme of things its much safer than 90% of all the other vehicles on the road. I would rather be in a G in an accident that a jetta... You really should test drive one!

RE: G Class safety

This website has some good pictures too:

http://www.whnet.com/4x4/gcrash.html

Too bad its a SWB G, but you get the point.

Check out the ML's results here. they are much better than the G:

http://www.whnet.com/4x4/mlcrash.html

To defend the G however, it will far outlast the ML in terms of quality! its far superior to the ML in terms of build quaility and materials used.

RE: G Class safety

Am I the only one that saw the photos a head-on collision between a tour bus and a G in which the 2 occupants of the G walked away? I can't seem to find it again.
In my opinion the G is a truck and drives like one. I love it, but your wife may not.
