Engine modifications for 280GE???

I'd like to know if anyone has experimented with piecemeal upgrades to the 2.8 liter 6 cylinder in the 280 GE, I've recently found one that I'm happy with and am looking to purchase. The motors' power is adequate and will do the job, but IF, by some magical circumstance, I was to get the urge to tinker a bit, what sort of "improvements" could I make to this motor to increase power. I've searched the forums and most people just seem to do motor swaps or diesel conversions, but I want to know if there are little things that can be added to the car while still retaining the vehicles CARB and BAR certification...

RE: Engine modifications for 280GE???

While keeping the M110 engine, the best upgrade will be to rebuilt to M110 engine euro spec. increase HP to 180-190

I think is the best way to go. check this one.

Look at the sedan forums.

From what I hear, the M110 is one of the best "out of the box" motors, meaning little room for improvement. The euro sedan spec motors are higher compression than the G motors due to different pistons and cams. But beyond that, I'm not sure there's much gain to be had. Worth a look at the sedan forums though. Those guys are usually more hevily into motor tweaking than the G guys.

RE: Engine modifications for 280GE???

I guess the issue with Euro specs on the 110 motor is whether these "changes" will leave a California certified car, california certified...

Hmmm...can't help there.

Have to take that up with your friendly neighbors at the DMV office. I can't claim any knowledge of the workings of Kalifornia governmental regulations, and would just as soon keep it that way![:p]

I think Norm Kaiser at Kaiser Motors outside San Fran has had outside G's certified for california registration. Not sure if he'd share his resources or not....
