Took the G out for a ride this weekend and at highway speed when I hit a bump, I get a walbly feedback in the stearing wheel like an unbalance wheel, as if the wheel is bouncing around. But when there are no bumps on the road, I don't get this type of problem.
Any thoughts. The G does not seem to pull to any side but the stearing wheel does need to be center.
Steering damper is that little shock absorber looking bit that attaches between the front diff housing and the tie rod just behind the axle. Unfortunately, your mileage is not uncommon for one to fail in a 463 it seeems from past posts here.
My G only have 33K on it what is the stearing dampler? Orginal rims but not orginal tires falcon, but nothing strange in size.
With stock rims, i had steering shakes around 18K miles. In the morning when you drive it for the first time, do you feel that your steering wheel shakes for a few miles when you go past 40-50 mph?? If so, then it's time for a new steering damper.
I had a tough time convincing my local MB dealer that it is the steering damper. Luckily, after switching to the G320 16" rims, my shaking went away. Now, at 30K miles, my steering is fine on the 16" rims and original steering damper.
I do think that the steering damper lifespan decreases with the stock 18" MBUSA rims (et43).

On the other hand it could be the tires. The Yokohamas are infamous for developing a flat spot while parked overnight. This definitely makes for shakes during the first few miles in the day.

Just kidding.[:D] Did i tell you how much i love my 16" rims?! I love 'em!
i have had two replaced, along with a bent bar of some sort. The last one was at 21K miles. No problems after that and i know have 51K miles. Are ytou still under warranty?

saigonsmuggler,
were you able to get the dealer to replace the shocks?
Another questions for the rest of you. Can you put ML rims on the G. I have plenty of those.
