Rear Axle Bearing Rotating in Axle-Housing

I'm just notified by my mechanic that I lost a rear wheel bearing and the outer race had spun in the axle housing. Anybody had the same problem and were able to fix it with the likes of a Looktite product?
Or any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help

Yup, I have used Loctite before to do exactly what you have in mind.
Have fixed a spun rear race with aluminum foil as well - seams to work better than Loctite.

RE: Rear Axle Bearing Rotating in Axle-Housing

Using a Locktite or Permatex product to hold the bearing to the spun area would be good. Use the heavy duty Red thread locker goo.
A technique to provide a good interference fit in a damaged bearing seat area is to use a center punch and riddle the sides with punch marks evenly across the surface. This mushrooms up a little metal and can make up for the missing thousandths the housing needs to keep the bearing firmly in place mechanically. I've heard it called a "Chicago" fix. I don't know why. That and some Locktite Red might make for a safe repair. Cheaper than the overbore and sleeve approach to the problem. A suggestion...

bearing failed within 600 miles of what? After installing it? Sue him out of business!

Can you get "LOY" plastic metal over there, ideal for this job, you can even machine it if you wish.
Just googled it to find it is sold in the USA under the Caswell brand name.

Better figure it out. Without taking action on root cause, the new bearing will spin in the cobbled up pocket just the same way the old one spun in the original place. Most spun races have a lack of lubricant somewhere in the chain of contributing factors.

Loctite makes specific products for the kind of repair you want to make. At least use the right product, rather than something designed as a thread locker. Find a full line distributor in your area and talk over potential solutions with them.

Thanks Dave,

I took some pictures of the remaining bearing parts.
(how can I upload them into my posts?)
Both races are still in one piece (each) but all the rollers are spewed out. This all happened appr. 600mi after a mechanic replace bearings and seals on both sides. I had a oily/moist brake carier and thought first it was a leaking wheel cylinder - but it was a tiny axle-oil leak. now this......
There was also plenty of gear oil in the axle - the failed bearing had suffient oil to work - no offroad just a bit around town driving and one trip to Seaworld San Diego - can't find any root causes.
